Dogs Health: Importance, Financial Responsibilities and Options

Your dogs health should be the most important thing to you. Certain breeds may be healthier than others, but there is plenty that you can do to keep your dog healthy and happy. Knowing and recognizing the important of regular vet visits and common diseases are essential to your dogs health.

A dogs health can be expensive, but if you can’t afford to keep them healthy you should not have one. Things like vaccinations, check-ups, flea and tick treatments, grooming and sterilization are essential to your dogs health. You will need to be able to afford to take your dog to the vet at least once a year for a check-up and flea and tick treatments need to be done every six to twelve months depending on the type of treatment and your breed of dog.

Dog health is important, but what if you can’t afford to pay for it out of pocket? There is pet insurance. It works similar to human health insurance except it is much cheaper every month. Like human health insurance it covers most medical procedures and there are a few exclusions. The exclusions will depend on the level of coverage and the company you choose.

If your dog needs an expensive medical procedure and you cannot afford it you do have options. If you have decent credit you can apply for a small personal loan to cover the costs. Some financial institutions also provide loans specifically for vet costs.

Your local humane society may offer the procedure at a lower price depending on your income. If they cannot help you, they can most likely provide you with some resources that may be able to. Most humane societies do offer free or low-cost spays, neuters and vaccinations. They go by your income to determine whether or not you qualify for these services.

If you cannot possibly find a way to pay for a needed medical procedure you have two other options. You can give your dog to someone who can afford to take care of your dogs health. If your dog is in really bad shape you can have him or her euthanized. These options aren’t the most desirable, but they may be your only options. Giving your dog to a family that can afford to take care of it is a good option and it can ensure your dogs health. Euthanization is not cruel and it is considered humane. If your dog is suffering you want his or her suffering to end and these may be the only ways to do so.

Dog health is just as important as human health. It can also be just as costly. Before you even get a dog make sure that you can afford to take care of him or her properly and completely.
