Dog owners often get confused what to feed their pet. The market made food elements often cause health issues and when you have a delicate breed like Shih Tzu, you have to be extra cautious. Fruits and vegetables go well with this breed, but you should provide only the fresh and crunchy ones. Cooked product is for humans; your little Shih Tzu can’t digest it.

Fruits You Can Give It to Your Shih Tzu

You can give fruits to your Shih Tzu as those are super beneficial and powerhouse of nutrition. Which fruits you can give to your Shih Tzu.

  1. Berries – Berries are quite good for the little buddy. Blueberries, specifically, are the best options. You can feed it a handful. Rich in essential antioxidants, this fruit prevents the growth of free radicals in Shih Tzu and fights against cancer.
  1. Banana – You can feed it banana to your Shih Tzu as treat. As this fruit is rich source of potassium and lots of other nutrients which are good for dog. But, you can only feed it few slices as the sugar in it doesn’t go well with Shih Tzu. Give it to your dog as treat, but not as regular diet.
  1. Melon – This is one of the healthiest treats for your pooch. Cut fresh melons and feed it to your Shih Tzu. You will be happy to know that you can give every varieties of melon to your dog, like cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon.

Vegetables You Can Feed Your Shih Tzu

If you want to bring variation to the snacks for Shih Tzu, fresh and crunchy vegetables can be provided. Those are full of healthy benefits and make your dog healthy.

  1. Zucchini – You can feed this veggie at moderate amount. As zucchini is rich in potassium and vitamin C, this makes no harm to your dog if given at small amount.
  1. Carrots – This is one of the best vegetables that you can give to your Shih Tzu. Often vets also approve this to give to your dog. You can give it raw or lightly cooked. People also provide chilled carrots as Shih Tzu like the taste of it much.
  1. Broccoli – For Shih Tzu puppies, broccoli works great. But, you should give only cooked broccoli and never the raw one.

While giving anything new to your Shih Tzu, consult a vet to get expert advice. Never give onion and garlic to your pooch.
