Shih Tzu Show Preparation

Shih Tzu Show

One of the most enjoyable experiences of having a Shih Tzu is signing up for a dog show. While you get to show off your furry pet to the people out there but you also get to bond with your pet as you have to work as a team during these events. You never know, you might bring home a ribbon and a trophy. This will add to the achievements of your Shih Tzu other than being a source of joy and happiness in your family.

So the question is what dog shows are and how to sign up for these shows? First thing is to ensure that your dog is a pure breed Shih Tzu. In a show called conformance your dog will be judged purely based on the physical features and how they are ‘conformed’ to the breed standards. In events such as these your Shih Tzu needs to be registered with its own dog club. Another type of show is the performance and agility event. In these events your dog needs to impress the judges by complying with your commands. Your dog need not have papers as requirements but you only have to show how smart your dog is. To win these events training is a must. You have to ensure that your Shih Tzu will follow your command 100% and no distraction will stop him from showing off his tricks. To be able to win these dog shows, you should first enlist in the dog match events where you can practice with your dog and expose him to the environment in dog shows. These matches are more like trial events hosted especially to rehearse competing dogs.

However there are certain things that you have to keep in mind before you just waltz on your way on a dog show. Your dog have to be extremely well trained in temper control and in commands. He must be certified healthy by his vet and must have completed his doses of vaccination and deworming protocol. You also need to bring your Shih Tzu to the groomer to make sure that he looks his best on the big day. After all it is a “show-off” event. It is advisable to get your Shih Tzu physically and mentally prepared before the show starts.
